IslandWood (Brightwater Education Center)
IslandWood invites children and adults alike to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. IslandWood operates traditional day camp programs for campers entering Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade at the Brightwater Education Center in Woodinville. Running from July through mid-August, these programs provide experiences which further IslandWood’s mission of inspiring lifelong learning and environmental and community stewardship.
Position Summary:
Volunteers in Outdoor Leadership (VOLs) assist our staff in delivering educational programming for children in our day camp programs at the Brightwater Center in Woodinville. VOLs partner with a field group of campers for the week, serving as an extra set of hands and modeling excitement for campers. Duties can include logistical support around art projects, teaching short lessons, leading games, and overall working directly with campers and our staff to better learn about the world of environmental education. VOLs are meant to be support and are not responsible for delivering programming on their own, nor do they oversee the safety of campers. However, some level of experience leading activities or supervising kids ages 4-11 will help to set you up for success in this role!
Qualifications:
- Status as a rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or recent high school graduate
- Interest in working with children in the outdoors and a willingness to learn
- Creative, flexible, and able to work closely with a Summer Programs Instructor
- Ability to work as a team member
- Strong work ethic, punctual, and dependable
- Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, children, and parents
- Some level of experience leading activities or supervising kids ages 4-11
Compensation and commitment: This is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity. VOLs can receive up to 35 hours per week of community service credit from IslandWood, plus mileage reimbursement for travel to and from Brightwater. VOLs commit to a minimum of 4 hours per day for at least two weeks of programming.

STEP-UP 2025 - Paid Internship
The NIH High School STEP-UP Program is a nationally recognized program that connects underrepresented students with local institutions and mentors to gain firsthand research experience. This is a paid opportunity- limited to high school Juniors and Seniors- that will introduce students to local professional, collegiate-level settings where they will create and conduct their own research project, garnering essential experience before they enter college.

Biomanufacturing Training Program
- The Biomanufacturing Training Program: has replaced BioPath (though structure and learning outcomes are pretty much the same) and is the 3-quarter long program twice a week after school. The students are not paid anymore, unfortunately, but we have several industry partners that provide mentors, tours, etc. No biotech experience required. Open to rising juniors and seniors.
Butterfly Pediatrics
We are a pediatric occupational therapy clinic in Bellevue, WA. We have openings for volunteer and shadow opportunity at our facility for students currently enrolled in educational programs related to child development or need hours to apply to school for such programs.

Camp Blaze - Fire Camp For Young Women

Fred Hutch Summer High School Internship Program
The Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP) is an eight-week, full-time paid internship for rising 12th graders. Selected interns attend an orientation day, then begin the internship with one week of hands-on training on laboratory safety techniques and skills in the Fred Hutch Training Labs. The remaining seven weeks consists of supervised shadowing and training in a Fred Hutch host mentor’s research lab. Interns also attend weekly workshops and seminars and make a presentation during the final week. SHIP gives students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research the opportunity to explore, clarify, and strengthen their research-related career interests.We encourage all applicants to learn more about our research areas and scientific divisions. Applicants should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements (below) and we recommend assembling application materials early, even before the application opens.

HungerCorps Associates
Brief Description:
Summer HungerCorps Associates help to fight food insecurity by helping families and youth access healthy meals during the summer. Members will deliver meals directly to families’ doors at an apartment complex, serve Grab and Go meals at a community center, or distribute groceries to families at a neighborhood food pantry. Training will be provided in site management, marketing, community engagement, and data tracking – meaningful skills that will both serve our community and be powerful on a resume. Service placements include Seattle, Tukwila, Renton, Auburn, East King County, Kent, and Federal Way.

Seattle Aquarium Youth Ocean Advocate
Youth Ocean Advocates must be enrolled in grades 9–12 in a high school, Running Start or homeschool program at time of application.
We have a limited number of positions to fill each school year and summer. Potential Youth Ocean Advocates must attend one of our orientation sessions. After you attend the online orientation, you’ll receive an application to fill out and return to the Aquarium. From the applicant pool, we’ll select individuals to interview for the program. Individuals in the computer science field work every day to develop new products, software and digital narratives that are actively reshaping every aspect of our world. Over the course of 9 Sunday afternoons in Summer 2025, high school students will learn about their future opportunities in the computer science field as it relates to education, a career and making a positive impact on our changing world. Students will hear career presentations from working professionals engaged in computer science jobs and career fields such as web design, software development, user design as well as the business operations of technology companies. Through workshops and discussions, student will learn more about how their unique personal and academic interests can relate to a possible career future in computer science.

Impact Internship - Health Sciences
Health Science Immersion Program (HSIP)
9 Saturday Afternoons: June 7th to August 2nd (12-3pm OR 3-6pm PST)

From science research in a laboratory to medical care in a hospital, there are many health science professionals who are transforming society’s health outcomes. In Summer 2023, we will give high school students an introduction to the academic, research and professional components of the health sciences field. A key focus of HSIP will be helping students consider their future college experience as well as career opportunities through hearing from speakers, engaging in workshops and taking part in a group research article project. Over the last four years over 975 high school students have been introduced to the health sciences field with HSIP.
❖Engage in lectures from 12+ speakers including Science Professors/ PhD Graduate Students from institutions including UC San Francisco, UCLA, Columbia University & Cal State LA about their research as well as health professionals such as a dentist, medical resident physician, respiratory therapist, medical communications manager & pharmacist about their careers
❖ Prepare for college admissions in our facilitator led workshops and engage in our career options and pathways workshops
❖ Work collaboratively on a small group research project to build science inquiry and public communication skills
❖ Be Part of a Community That Values Learning and Mentorship!

Summer Planning Academy (SPA)
The Summer Planning Academy (SPA) is a free program for high school students in King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties that introduces them to planning topics through engaging sessions, activities, and site visits led by regional planning experts at Puget Sound Regional Council, colleagues from partner agencies, and leaders from the community. The program encourages students to think creatively about how better planning can help people lead better lives and how to set a career path to become a planner.
It is a four-day program in July and August and includes a $500 scholarship for successful completion. More details about SPA including the dates and the application can be found on our website. The application deadline is May 19, 2025.
A little about Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC). PSRC develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth, transportation, and economic development planning within King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Kitsap counties. PSRC is composed of nearly 100 members, including the four counties, cities and towns, ports, state and local transportation agencies, and Tribal governments within the region.

Earth & Space Research Internship
Pasado's Safe Haven - Leaders for Ethics, Animals and the Planet
We are thrilled to introduce you to a new program specifically designed for high school students who are interested in becoming leaders in the areas of animal care and climate solutions! Leaders for Ethics, Animals, and the Planet (LEAP) offers community building, leadership training, and hands-on learning that focuses on animal rescue and care, introductory veterinary medicine, ethics, the impacts of the current food system on the environment and human rights, as well as climate solutions and the future of animal welfare.
As part of the LEAP program, participants will be presented with monthly collaborative curriculum modules at Pasado's Safe Haven along with opportunities to learn from professionals in fields such as animal law, food science, veterinary medicine, sanctuary management, renewable energy, and more.
With former teachers amongst the LEAP founding members, we understand the importance of giving young people the chance to build community with like-minded peers as well as providing opportunities for interactions with role models in their areas of interest. By working together, sanctuaries across the country are excited to offer students the chance to collaborate and build relationships with people who share their interests and values.
Along with an interactive monthly lesson and hands-on workshop at the sanctuary, students will participate in four service hours per month and get training in sanctuary responsibilities, animal care, gardening, rewilding the land, and more. They will also learn basic entrepreneurial skills and will practice public speaking and leadership by learning to effectively educate the community via tours, events, and educational presentations.
The LEAP program will run from October to June each school year, and students will have the opportunity to complete a year-end project and compete with other participants across the country for scholarship money.
Environmental Careers Preparedness Summer Scholars Program
Emerging 10th-12th grade Title 1-eligible students are invited to apply to the University of Washington Bothell Environmental Careers Preparedness Summer Scholars Program. EnCAP is focused on preparing the next generation of students for the growing green economy by providing pathways towards environmental and sustainability degree programs through this 5-credit summer internship.
Selected summer scholars will participate in a 4-week interdisciplinary, field-based program to learn about the range, impacts, and diversity of green career pathways in Washington State in partnership with UWB faculty and undergraduate research assistants. In addition to field research, students will also participate in field trips and green career pathway panel discussions with local industry and community professionals. Participants will conduct comprehensive place-based research projects to share in a final science showcase with families, UWB faculty, and community members.

Harvey Mudd Student Fly-Ins
Are your students Future Achievers in Science and Technology?
Harvey Mudd College is one of the premier engineering, science, and mathematics colleges in the United States, and we'd like to encourage high-achieving, college-bound high school seniors to apply for our all-expenses-paid overnight fall fly-in program. The FAST Program will have a strong emphasis on the experiences of communities that are historically excluded from STEM, including, but not limited to, women, Black, Indigenous, or Latinx, students from low-income backgrounds, rural backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students who are first-generation to college.
FAST covers travel expenses, meals, and lodging throughout the duration of the program and encourages students to interact with other STEM-minded students from across the country. Cost: This program is 100% free and includes housing in campus dorms, food, and all activities.
Who is Eligible: The Accounting Career Awareness Program ’s summer Residency Week program is for students enrolled in high school throughout Washington State who will be sophomores, juniors and seniors during the school year immediately following the summer program. Admission is prioritized for applicants that considered to be underrepresented in the accounting field.
More about: Introduces participants to accounting and the many opportunities offered in a career field actively seeking to diversify its workforce. Participants reside on campus, learn in and out of the classroom, visit accounting firms, build valuable life skills, and network with other students and diverse professionals while enjoying a taste of campus life.
